So you live in Nebraska and you’re looking for something fun to do for the whole family. You’ve searched the Internet for leads, but unfortunately, folks in Nebraska aren’t Internet-savvy just yet. You could settle for another year of gathering pumpkins out of a field and getting lost in a corn maze in North Platte or Sidney, or you could find something a little more edgy.

Something new and exciting…

Yep, then you’ve found the right place! If you’re sick of doing the same thing year after year with the kids, then you should give School District 13 in Brule, NE a try. Why? Because School District 13 is a one-of-a-kind in the United States. There’s no other attraction like it anywhere on the planet. And it’s family-friendly. Bring the younger kids and the teenagers and they’ll all have fun!

You could make a whole day out of a visit to the Golden Spike Tower to do the pumpkin patch and corn maze in North Platte, if you feel like you just can’t resist those activities, but why not jump in the car with the whole family for a short 45 minute road trip at the end of the day to go to a town that specializes in Halloween?

When you arrive at School District 13 in Brule (Exit 117 along I-80), signs will direct you to the parking area located on the southwest edge of town. Park your car, but beware. This is where the “haunting” starts.

From the moment you leave your car, you’re fair-game for our street actors. None of the actors on the street will be wearing bloody make-up or super-scary costumes (though there will be some zombies, vampires, witches, and ghouls), but your kids may stare a lot and become really shy. Street actors are trained to be kind to the kids. Teenagers thrive when they’re immersed in the weirdness of Brule at Halloween. Adults get to take a brief escape from the real world and enjoy the fun of taking the kids to do something completely new and different.

Come hungry. There’s plenty of hot food and sweet treats at School District 13! You’ll buy your tickets outside the concession stand in the parking area and then proceed around to the waiting area inside where you can buy foods from the Netherworld. You never know what the witches and wizards will cook up at School District 13! When the haunted bus arrives, gather your things and go. It’s a phantom bus so it might disappear if you don’t hurry!

There are four haunted attractions in Brule. Kids can go through the haunts with glow sticks to alert scare actors to the presence of a child, but the glow sticks may or may not work, depending on how busy we are. Our scare actors don’t want to scare little kids, but sometimes it happens by accident! Talk with the ticket booth attendants to choose the right haunts for your kids. We recommend specifically that children with a fear of spiders avoid Dr. Doom’s.

We offer community-wide trick-or-treating on specific nights each year during the School District 13 event. In 2015, we offered tricks and treats on Halloween night, but in 2016, Halloween is on a Monday. So we’re inviting people to do their trick-or-treating in Brule on Saturday, October 29th and Sunday, October 30th between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The Lost Soul Train provides transport to various areas throughout town. Families can enjoy the idyllic experience of trick-or-treating in a small town as well as the hustle and bustle of a city filled to the brim with Halloween.

There are no North Platte, NE haunted attractions that are doing what we’re doing at School District 13. Ours is an interactive Halloween village and we welcome families with kids of all ages. Come visit us this year and experience something completely different and new!
